Arena Carioca
A mesh for the Olympics
Architectural firm: WilkinSon eyre & aeCoM
Year: 2014
Mesh model: MTC ESEDRA
The Carioca Arena is a complex of three multipurpose sports facilities, built for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
To connect the three buildings, the architect designed a folded wooden belt, enhancing the organic nature of the structure.
We then created a band of light-coloured expanded metal mesh that creates a play of light and shadow along the connecting corridors of the Carioca Arena venues.
The aesthetic effect is dynamic and evokes the essence of the different sports hosted in these environments.
