New department of Islamic Art – Louvre Museum
4,700 unique pieces for the Louvre
Architectural firm: Mario Bellini, Rudy Ricciotti
Year: 2011/2012
Mesh model: MTC 3D LVR A91-A95
In the vision of Mario Bellini and Rudy Ricciotti, the space inside the Cour Visconti at the Louvre Museum dedicated to Islamic Art, was intended to possess the same delicacy and sinuosity of a silk scarf on a windy day.
The result was achieved by combining an expanded silver anodized metal mesh with a golden one and shaping 4,700 unique pieces into a harmonious and fluid structure.
Metalltech studied the wind and snow loads, paying particular attention to the maintenance and cleaning process and implementing a structure with different opening panels for periodic cleaning operations.
