Foldable expanded metal: a design solution for day and night
Achitectural firm: Pysall Architekten
Year: 2018
Mesh model: MTC 3D L2 29 SPECIAL
For the building’s renovation at the entrance of the quadrangle of the former Pfefferberg brewery, we covered with elements of foldable expanded metal the large floor-to-ceiling extendable windows, which are integrated into the southeast facades.
These elements can be manually operated, allowing for individual light penetration’s adjustment and ensuring natural illumination and ventilation.
The seven-story construction is composed of a few architectural elements — floors, ceilings, columns, and a metal facade — and natural colours such as exposed concrete, glass, steel, and aluminium.
The expanded metal frames this balanced ensemble, enhancing internal and external forms and volumes, both during the day and at night.
