New Campus Bocconi
Self-supporting panels up to 6 metres long
Architectural firm: Studio Sanaa
Year: 2020
Model Mesh: MTC BOC-1
To engineer the light and airy vision of the facade requested by the architects, we created panels up to 6 metres long in expanded metal.
The mesh is shaped to form waves of varying width and depth, making the cladding’s visual impact almost imperceptible while simultaneously ensuring transparency and shading.
The panels are self-supporting, featuring a profile welded to the expanded metal with anchoring to each floor. Additionally, floors are equipped with a walkway made of expanded metal that ensures maximum transparency and minimal visual impact, in compliance with legal loads.
Metalltech provided structural calculations, wind tunnel tests, fatigue tests for structural vibrations, and thermal transmittance and reflectance tests for energy-saving calculations.
