Baku Airport Toollgate
Two shades of gold and
a spider-shaped anchor for the Azerbaijani star
Architectural firm: Fred Deacon
Year: 2010-2011
Mesh model: Coliseum / Academy
The Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan welcomes travellers and visitors with a monumental 28-metres-high wing and a 72-metres-long span.
The enormous tensile structure, towering over the twelve lanes of the road leading to the airport, features a large star on the top, a symbol of the country, which is clearly visible to passengers flying over the area.
To achieve the particular transparency effect, we used and combined two different meshes in two shades of gold.
We also implemented a spider-shaped anchoring system, typically used for glass facades, to support the panels covering the arch.
