The ultimate goal behind the transformation project for the NHS Foundation Trust parking in Manchester was to make the old brick building “come alive” and immediately recognizable to visitors.
The architects decided to give the facade a 3D effect by cladding it with an aluminium expanded metal featuring a golden anodized finish.
The distance of the panels from the facade helped to recreate the sense of depth and a high visual impact. At street level, the expanded metal was also screen-printed to give a focal point for visitors arriving by car.
The NHS complex serves over a million patients annually. The use of expanded metal mesh has increased parking security and allowed for a minimum 60% natural airflow.
